Join the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and the Friends of Mount Rogers on September 23 for a special “Celebrate Public Lands” event. The event takes place from 10 AM until 2 PM at the Pat Jennings Visitor Center at 3714 Highway 16, Marion, Virginia.
Enjoy a wide range of activities including fun things for all ages: a scavenger hunt, guided hikes, meet Smokey Bear, native garden volunteer project, kids nature crafts, and a wildlife program. In addition there will be food and mountain music.
The Pat Jennings Visitor Center serves as the headquarters and gateway to the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. Located only 6 miles from Exit 45 off I-81, the visitor center is in a peaceful mountain setting and adjacent to the Appalachian Trail. The center is a great place to learn more about the area and to purchase maps, natures guides, and memorabilia. Clean restrooms, picnic tables, and the Two Ponds Nature Trail make this an ideal stop for visitors.
National Public Lands Day began nationally in 1994 to celebrate our national outdoor heritage and the opportunities available through our outdoor lands. This Celebrate Public Lands event is sponsored jointly by the U.S. Forest Service and the Friends of Mount Rogers.
